Statement From UAP Executive Director Seema Jalan on the White House’s Release of the First-ever National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality

Statement from Universal Access Project Executive Director Seema Jalan:

“Today’s release of the first-ever U.S. National Strategy on Gender Equity and Equality is truly historic – not only in its existence, but also in the ways it reflects the full breadth and diversity of input from civil society on key priorities from a permanent repeal of the global gag rule, an end to the Hyde Amendment, support for UNFPA, support for survivors of gender-based violence and women in humanitarian crises, and more. I applaud the Biden-Harris Administration for its prioritization of sexual and reproductive health and rights in both domestic and foreign policy, including access to abortion, throughout the strategy and its intersectional approach that recognizes the systemic barriers related to race, gender, identity, sexual orientation, and more that put true equity even further out of reach for too many communities. We have the tools and the knowledge to bring this strategy to life, and I look forward to working with the administration to ensure that the health, rights and autonomy of people everywhere are protected and uplifted.”
