NBEC seeks to provide research to promote healthier birth experiences and health outcomes and works with organizations, communities, and other stakeholders to develop and implement strategies to achieve health equity goals. They provide training and technical assistance for organizations that value community voices and strive to improve the lives of Black families, including ensuring optimal birth conditions for all people. Among other policy and research resources, they have developed a Birth Equity Index and Tool Kit, along with the Birth Equity Agenda. NBEC, in partnership with National Collaborative for Health Equity, is supported by the Foundation for Louisiana.

NBEC uses their UAP grant to advocate for reproductive justice and birth equity in the U.S. and globally.
