The International Center for Research on Women (ICRW) has been the world’s premier applied research institute focused on women and girls for over four decades. Founded in 1976, ICRW is a private, nonprofit organization with offices in the United States, India, Kenya and Uganda that conducts and supports work in more than 65 countries. Anchored in the principle of human dignity, ICRW advances gender equity, social inclusion, and shared prosperity. ICRW provides research, technical assistance, monitoring and evaluation, strategic advisory, and capacity-building services to help stakeholders around the world design, implement, assess, and evaluate gender-responsive policies and programs. ICRW is a recognized leader building the evidence-base related to sexual and reproductive health and rights, undertaking research, and providing technical advice on understanding and overcoming barriers to access. They have led the global community in improving understanding of girls’ and women’s access to health, opportunities and resources, and how the perpetuation of gender inequity holds back progress for everyone.
ICRW uses their UAP grant to leverage their resources as a research institute to synthesize and highlight the latest evidence supporting the U.S.’s embrace of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) as a critical component of a U.S foreign policy – including in multilateral cooperation – and uses their position as a leader of a growing coalition of voices calling for SRHR and other gender equality issues to be front and center in U.S. foreign policy.
