APPL

"At APPL, we believe that empowering our women workers and our communities through health and well-being programs, including reproductive health and protection from violence, enables people to make their own decisions about their lives and futures."

Mr. Vikram Singh Gulia, MD & CEO, APPL

Amalgamated Plantations Private Limited (APPL), the second-largest tea producer in India, commits to nurture a healthy, hygienic, and safe workplace and community for 35,000 women workers and community members in India by providing family planning and reproductive health services across 25 tea estates of Assam and Dooars in West Bengal by 2025.

This commitment will focus on access to services for family planning, reproductive health, menstrual hygiene, cancer screenings, and prevention and treatment of chronic diseases such as tuberculosis and anemia. It will also strengthen the existing mechanism of prevention of violence against women in the workplace, community, and at home.

To achieve this commitment, APPL has a dedicated team of medical officers providing quality reproductive health services in the workplace, emphasizing institutional delivery, access to contraception, and nutritional counseling for pregnant and lactating mothers. APPL also supports community youth groups that educate adolescents on health and wellness and provide skills-based training of medical staff and community health volunteers to expand reproductive health offerings. Over the next five years, APPL, along with internal and external partners, intends to broaden the scope of its health and well-being offerings to reach more women workers and community members. APPL, formerly Tata Tea Limited, has operated for more than 150 years as an integrated tea producer, with women comprising 54% of its workforce.
