Arvind Ltd

“Working for improvement in social conditions for people has been the inherent value at Arvind. This has led to every manufacturing facility incorporating health and empowerment programs at their premises as our apparel value chain has a majority of women workers. We commit to undertake programs for the overall wellbeing of women workers in general and provide information on physical health, inner wellbeing, and life skills in particular with all our women workforce.”

- Mr. Punit Lalbhai, Executive Director, Arvind Limited

Arvind Ltd., a global leader in textiles, commits to providing sexual and reproductive health information and services for 12,000 of its women workers across three states (Gujarat, Karnataka, and Jharkhand) in India by 2024. This commitment will be achieved through the Young People Empowerment Program (YPEP), which is designed to support the social and economic empowerment of women and achieve gender equality and inclusive growth through a curriculum based on a UNICEF-curated module using a blended model of classroom lessons, virtual and practical sessions. Given the importance of women’s health to their empowerment, Arvind’s commitment includes providing a continuum of care focused on health and well-being to these 12,000 women workers.

This commitment expands on the company’s collaboration with Samhita Social Ventures whereby Arvind runs programs for its personnel’s holistic development, including their health and well-being. This includes providing information to women workers on various aspects of reproductive health and family planning like contraception, sexually transmitted infections, and gender-based violence. In addition to education on these topics, female workers are provided with health services such as menstrual hygiene supplies, pre-and postnatal care, and childcare through well-equipped facilities. Workplace clinics with full-time nurses and visiting doctors ensure the medical well-being of the staff on a sustained basis, including referrals to hospitals and primary health centers when needed. Arvind also addresses the nutrition needs of women workers by housing a cafeteria that serves wholesome meals, and their mental health needs with programs on yoga, meditation, and stress management. Finally, Arvind provides its women workers with training in digital literacy, financial literacy, English language, career advancement, and entrepreneurship.
